The signal class for PCs, though, was 1976 the year that Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started the apple Computer company in Jobs' garage. Their first model, the Apple I, was the first single circuit board computer and came with a video interface, 8K of RAM, and a keyboard (Bellis). It came pop out with only 4K of RAM, but this was increased to 48K the following year, and the cassette drive was replaced by a floppy disk drive (Bellis). The year 1977 similarly brought forth the Commodore Personal Electronic Transactor (PET) and the Radio Shack TRS-80, but neither of these attained the popularity of the Apple II.

IBM had had little success with the 5100, they make another attempt at entering the market in 1980 with the IBM PC, based on a 4-77 MHz Intel 8088 microprocessor with 16 Kb of memory that could expand to 256K.
