IBM had had little success with the 5100, they make another attempt at entering the market in 1980 with the IBM PC, based on a 4-77 MHz Intel 8088 microprocessor with 16 Kb of memory that could expand to 256K.

The PC came with one or cardinal floppy drives and an optional color monitor for $1,565, but its standout feature was that it was the first one build from off-the-shelf parts airfoil architecture and marketed by outside distributors like Sears and Computerland (Bellis).
