Abstract
Conflict between establishing ego identity and following Indian customs dutys torment Arnold Spirit during his fledgling year in high school. Issues of rejection, bullying, race, and poverty are barriers that he essential face. As a teen living on an Indian making, following community traditions is expected. It is believed spirits of the past and face live and protect the people of the Spokane tribe. Despite his family and community beliefs, Arnold defies tradition by attending a predominately white school in the nearby town, Reardan. The teen views himself as a part-time Indian caught between the two worlds of small town Reardan and the Spokane Tribe. He must navigate through these worlds and overcome ain barriers in decree to fulfill his destiny in life.
