Act 3 of the play begins with a dialogue between Cleomenes and Dion who went to retrieve a prophecy from the oracle in Delphi. Their conversation brings to us the ambience of Delphi as they highlighted how wonderful and outstanding the island and its religion/ synagogues were (Fertile the isle, the temple much surpassing). This is in contrast with the events to come as it portrays the calm before the storm. the role of informing readers of the religious automated teller alone was to show us the difference between Delphi and Sicilia where in that respect is moral peace and immoral chaos respectively.
