In my case write up I will analyze how successful GMS has been, along close to KPIs that might be applied in the case of this social venture.
#1 indicator: IMPACT
GMS do have a substantive social impact on a global scale. A huge number of local projects have been completed and/or be being run. Thousands of people have been involved: mapmakers, company members, educators, NGOs, tourists, etc, on five continents. Only a few internationally known, big sized not-for-profit initiatives may be proud of such outreach. These people have all contributed to a greater or lesser extent to the CASE. Even if in near of the cases no actual government consummation has been made or no bicycle route has been built, at least the brainpower of the participants has been changed and this is utterly important.
Moreover, many of the projects have resulted in concrete action towards sustainable living, e.g. in the case of the Thailand Environment Institute. Thus, the founders primary puzzle may be measured as successful.
Management & group A; organization
They have achieved impressive results as a not-for-profit organization. Their organization has bragging(a) to a size of a decent company.
As the open members tell in the interviews, the organization has gone through an constitutional development. Pretty ad-hoc when started, but after 15 years they determined up a well designed organizational structure, including salaried professional staff in the key roles. Also, as Wendy Brawer confessed, they do educate themselves to attain the skills and knowledge necessary for managing the company.
GMS puts a toilet of emphasis on developing and integrating local skills. It consists of a small international management team, but the actual projects are local initiatives, based on the shared resources.
