Description
The following event took place in the paediatric intensifier care unit (PICU). I was caring for a tailfin months old tom. Feelings
I was feeling happy and support at the thought that I helped Toms mum to feel more helpful, overcome her fear and learn a new skill that would help her son. Moments like this are incessantly rewarding and put a smile on my face. I like to encourage parents to participate in nursing care. Parents on our unit have unrestricted access to their child and therefore numerous opportunities to engage in their babys care. I was surprised that Sarah had not been encouraged by other colleagues to help with Toms care. This was the first time that she was offered to do this.
